SAVE THE MEMORIAL AT KIRKUK IRAQ

Situation and brief History –

In 2009/10 a Memorial was conceptualized and created by Soldiers and Airmen Stationed in Kirkuk Iraq. The Memorial is pictured attached. This Memorial is also going to be painted over as the Bases Close and Our Troops pull out of Iraq.

It is requested that you admire this work. Take in its vastness. Think about the Labor of Love, The Honor of the Remembrance as each name was painted on this wall. Think about the Names on this Memorial Wall. Each name represents possibly a friend of one of the artist, a son or daughter, father or mother to a family at home. One of those names may be one of Our Own Hometown Hero’s. Whichever the case, with over 4336 Names posted on this Memorial, they are America’s Son’s and Daughter’s, they are all HERO’S!

Wall #22 reads as follows –

“Spanning over 280ft totaling 22 unimproved Alaska Force Protection Barriers, bearing 4336 names at concept, this was a joint project between the US Army and Air Force. The task was met with tremendous skepticism at the beginning due to the scale of the project and uncertainty of the volunteers. It wasn’t until Vietnam Veteran KBR Contractor Carson George described the tragic story of his own son Phillip killed while assigned in Afghanistan that solidified the projects completion. It became clear at this point that if the attempt was not made, we would never know.

On behalf of the Second Brigade Combat Team and the 506th Expeditionary Group / OIF 09-10, it is with great Respect we present this mural in Honor to the families, Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, Marines and Veterans of the United States of America.”

This is a collaborative effort between Randy Grosskopf Rolling Thunder NC 7 and Cindy Williams Rolling Thunder NC 4.
